We are delighted to be running a new Forest School after school club. We provide opportunities for our pupils to explore the natural world, appreciate biodiversity and develop their environmental awareness.
Forest School takes place in our Nature Reserve so we encourage a healthy outdoor lifestyle. Pupils get to be active learners with child-led problem solving and art activities.
Week 1 was a great success and we look forward to lots of fun and learning in the coming weeks.
The school is super-proud of pupil Dean Newbronner from Class 3M who was recently nominated for the Sense Sibling of the Year Award.
Dean and his family travelled to Birmingham on Thursday 19th September for the national awards ceremony, where he was placed Runner Up.
He gave a speech congratulating the winner and thanking those who nominated him. Well done Dean!!
Jordanstown School supported by CCEA have produced a video to demonstrate how CCEA Growing for the Future resource can contribute to the development of Home Economics and outdoor education for all learners in their school.

Today we were delighted to hold an induction morning for the new pupils in 1D and their parents, they all looked amazing!
We are very proud of their achievements in our primary department and look forward to teaching them in their new adventure in our secondary department.
Beyond diagnosis – Developing the professional toolkit for meeting the needs of sensory impairment profiles.
On August 28, BATOD NI in conjunction with NatSIP, Sense NI, RNIB NI and GuideDogs NI delivered a day full of workshops and keynote presentations at their first ever, Northern Ireland based, multi-agency conference for professionals working with children and young people with sensory impairment.
We are pleased to have Steve Rose (NatSIP associate) and Steph Halder (BATOD President) as the keynote speakers. There were 14 workshop options specific to multi-sensory impairment, vision impairment and deafness.
Everyone has had a great week.
Day 1 – Circus Skills Workshop came to visit us in the morning and then in the afternoon World of Owls came in. The children had an amazing time learning to juggle and petting owls and snakes.
Day 2 – We made some playdough in the morning and did basket weaving. The children loved being creative and had fun playing some games. In the afternoon we all went bowling, everyone loved it and showed their competitive sides.
Day 3 – Lea Vaughan (Forest Fitness) came into school with lots of activities for us all to do. We enjoyed learning how to box, we timed ourselves on the mini assault course and had a great time playing with the nerf guns. At the end of the day all the children were exhausted after a very active day.
Day 4 – The bus came and picked us up and took us to Carrickfergus Cinema to see Toy Story 4. We were very lucky as we were able to sit in the VIP suite, everyone loved the reclining chairs and also the film. When we got back to school we celebrated a child’s birthday with some cake and dancing. Smiles all round.
All in all, all children and staff had a brilliant week! Thanks everyone for coming, see you all next year for more fun and games.
On Wednesday the 26th June the pupils and staff of Jordanstown School took part in the summer concert.
The pupils performed a range of songs from famous movies.
Big thanks to all the pupils, staff and parents for making it such a wonderful evening.
Pupils took part in a range of positive lifestyle activities on our Health4Life days.
We used the Nature Reserve to run some Forest School activities and pupils learned about camouflage, native animals and made art from natural materials.
Mr Hughs, our resident expert cyclist, was on hand to take pupils on the tandem bike around the tennis courts.
Pupils also enjoyed finding out about and tasting different fruits from around the world- the Snowball Melon was a definite favourite!
Primary Prize day took place on 19th June. To present the prizes we welcomed back Mrs Gail Lawther, a former teacher.
We are all very proud of our brilliant pupils and they have all worked so hard throughout the year and have developed academically, socially and emotionally. They are all winners!!
Tuesday 18th June saw our eagerly anticipated Ulster Rugby Day!!
Jordanstown School was excited to welcome not only the development staff from Ulster Rugby but also the pupils from neighbouring Rostulla & Thornfield Schools!
Over 160 pupils enjoyed a mixture of rugby related activities such as tag, passing skills, Virtual Reality and of course, the robots!!
We would like to thank Neil Alcorn from Ulster Rugby for organising the staff and volunteers from the branch to come in!
The staff and children would certainly love them to come back next year!
